Q+A: “Wow” moments from MyTrucking’s UK road trip

From spreadsheets, WhatsApp to fully connected workflows, here’s what 8 days on the road in the UK revealed about the future of transport operations. We also share a Q+A with Sara Orsborn, MyTrucking’s Co-Founder, on where MyTrucking is making an impact.

Sam and Sara Orsborn recently toured the UK and hit the ground running!

What followed was an intensive 8‑day road trip, packed with amazing customer visits, prospect meetings, and on-the-ground validation of growing opportunities across the market.

From London through the South, into the Midlands, up to Scotland, and back again, the journey covered a huge geographical spread. It was a true whirlwind of live demos and real conversations with the people behind UK haulage.

In just eight days, they met with more than 10 operators spanning bulk, grain, metals, agriculture, and heavy haulage.

What else did the UK trip reveal? We spoke with Sara Orsborn to get all the insights!

Q: What’s driving MyTrucking’s momentum in the UK?

A standout theme across the trip was the strength of word-of-mouth referrals.

Customers are gaining significant value from MyTrucking, particularly through the Xero integration, and are actively referring other businesses into the network.

In many cases, prospects had already spoken to operators using MyTrucking before meetings even took place. Customers are proactively sharing their experiences and connecting new leads. This a strong indicator of product–market fit in the UK, without the need for product changes.

Q: Any “wow” moments?

Demonstrating MyTrucking in real-world environments created genuine “wow” moments.

Many businesses we visited already had established systems in place, typically a mix of spreadsheets, databases, paper, and manual processes. What stood out was how easily MyTrucking brought these into a single, streamlined workflow.

One key takeaway was clear: the same five core steps MyTrucking was originally built around are still how most transport businesses operate today:

  1. Take a call or receive an email with a job, and record it somewhere (spreadsheet or system)
  2. Provide the driver with job details via WhatsApp, text, or phone call
  3. The driver completes a ticket or docket
  4. The paperwork returns to be priced
  5. The job is entered into accounting software for invoicing

These systems aren’t broken, they work, but they’re fragmented.

The real impact came from showing how MyTrucking connects all five steps from a single entry point.

That’s where the “aha” moments happened, when operators could clearly see how much simpler and more efficient their workflows could be.

Q: Any standout feedback?

As one driver put it after completing their first job through the mobile app“It’s like going from corned beef to caviar.”

Q: A personal highlight?

One standout was a Beers & BBQ evening hosted by a customer. This brought together local transport operators in a lovely, relaxed setting.

It was a chance to swap stories, share insights, and step away from the day-to-day pressures of running a transport business. We shared the MyTrucking story of why it started and how it’s evolved alongside its customers.

More than anything, the evening served as a powerful reminder: in transport and haulage, relationships matter. Whether it’s on the road, in the yard, or over a BBQ, strong connections continue to drive the industry forward.

Q: How is MyTrucking solving common challenges?

The trip uncovered strong interest across a wide range of operators, from small owner-operators to large family-run fleets.

Across almost every business, the same challenges emerged:

  • Heavy reliance on paper-based systems, spreadsheets, and WhatsApp
  • Disconnected workflows across planning, communication, and invoicing
  • A growing push toward Xero and more integrated systems

Some businesses were still operating entirely on whiteboards and paper planning sheets, while others had built complex spreadsheet workflows over many years.

We met with a number of prospective operators, many of whom are now trialling the system or progressing toward onboarding. Highlights included:

  • A large civil fleet operating entirely on paper-based systems, with strong potential once timing allows
  • A heavy haulage operator with workflows closely aligned to MyTrucking’s structure
  • Multiple mid-sized fleets (20–40 vehicles) relying on spreadsheets, legacy systems, and manual processes.

Across every region and business visited, one theme was consistent: the industry still relies heavily on manual, multi-system processes and is ready for more efficient ways of working.

It reinforced that MyTrucking’s strength lies in providing a simple, unified platform that mirrors how operators already work. While also reducing duplication, improving visibility, and connecting everything in one place.

Q: What’s next for MyTrucking?

With new customers onboarded, a strong pipeline, and valuable on-the-ground insights gathered, MyTrucking is continuing to build real momentum in the UK.
