The MyTrucking story
Helping small transport businesses by reducing time, removing mistakes, improving communication and making invoicing easy.
MyTrucking came about through helping a friend tame the paper trail. Established in 2014 by Sam & Sara Orsborn, MyTrucking was developed alongside a local transport business to stream-line a laborious paper-based system, and in particular lessen the hassle of admin (invoicing). The initial offering of MyTrucking proved to be quite popular among several other local livestock transport companies that Sam approached a local developer for assistance to make it available to a wider audience.
MyTrucking “in the cloud” was launched and it was soon after that we realized we could change the game for small and medium sized transport businesses everywhere. Everytime we demonstrated our simple, powerful cloud-based transport management software to new prospects we could visibly see the joy of having removed the burden their old paper based system had them under.
We love helping other small businesses transform the way they do business, and we are only getting started.
Sam is involved full-time in the family business, Sharpes Stockfeed with his parents and wife Sara, as well as being involved in the running of the family farm. Sara Orsborn (nee Coop) is from a farming family in Hawkes Bay and has a strong background in Sales & Marketing.
Sara has held roles with the Richmond Meat Company, and later with Bernard Matthews (now Ovation NZ), before going onto setup her own business specializing in Marketing consultancy and Event Management. Sara is also involved in the Orsborn family business Sharpes Stockfeed where she is the Marketing Manager.
Sam & Sara live on the family farm in rural Carterton in the Wairarapa along with their 3 young children William, Lucy, Olivia and Ollie the fox-terrier.
Together Sam & Sara make a wonderful personable and professional team.
MyTrucking is a values-based business.
Our origins are in a small set of values, and we use these values to guide our decision making.
Together, our values underpin our culture.
Seems obvious to state but family is pretty big around here at MyTrucking, we are a family owned and operated business, but many of our customers are family owned businesses too. For us family is a multi-layered concept – our home family is critically important but so too is our work family, and our family of customers.
As part of the family value, caring and helping rates high for us. Caring is not just limited to people, it also includes the what, why and how we do things around here.
MyTrucking all started as a favour to a couple of mates, someone cared enough to help solve a problem – I’m drowning under a tonne of paperwork! Then some of their mates noticed the difference it made to their business and wanted the same. It didn’t take us long to realise we could help a lot of people. Boom, MyTrucking cloud application!
MyTrucking is only possible because of people. It’s people that use, build and support the product every day, we rely on people to do what we do. It takes a lot of people to enable us to keep doing what we love to do.
When we talk about “people” we mean you, our team, and our customers.
MyTrucking is a small team achieving big things, we appreciate that each one of us brings different skills to the table. We know we’re more impactful when we work together towards a shared vision or goal, and we know we achieve more when we share the load.
There is no “I” in team – If you want to go fast, go alone, if you want to go far, go together.
In a previous life Sam was a farm consultant. He developed a strong radar for inefficiency, which has served our thinking and decision making well. This is a skill we try to develop in all of us, and apply it in everything we do. Inefficiency is an opportunity for improvement.
When we remove inefficiency, we all benefit.
MyTrucking works alongside many other systems to create efficiencies – financial systems, internal MyTrucking business systems, other businesses’ systems.
We strive to understand how our customers’ systems work. We make these systems work together tightly where possible to enable efficiencies. We help customers understand which systems work best together.
MyTrucking works so well because it does the job it is intended to do. With every change we make to the product we ask:

- Is it intuitive?
- Is it familiar?
Simplicity is not just limited to our product. It guides all of our communication; we use simple everyday language at every touch point – with business owners, accountants, dispatchers, drivers, partners, our team.
The MyTrucking team is based in a newly renovated property on the Orsborn farm. Sam & Sara have been pondering the future of one of the older barns on the property, with it’s 100 yr old timber columns, beams and floors, the MyTrucking team is busy sketching office layouts and emailing them to Sam & Sara, we are saying YES to the shed.

A yes response will signal the start of your billing period, you can cancel at anytime without penalty.
